Self-Reflection: Being Aware of Our Experiences

The conclusion of any stage or cycle serves as an invitation to self-reflection: to become conscious of our experiences, extract the lessons learned, and assess our journey through that process. This phase can pertain to the end of a year, a relationship, a project, or even a personal chapter.

Reflecting on Past Experiences

  • What did you learn?

  • What propelled your personal or professional growth?

  • Which recurring patterns have you yet to release?

Often, the most significant changes manifest internally rather than externally. Perhaps during this cycle, you planted seeds that will bear fruit in the future, or you've observed the outcomes of inner work you've been cultivating over time.

Identifying Needs and Making Adjustments

Self-reflection can also unveil the necessity to set boundaries or implement changes you've been postponing. These adjustments can range from minor self-care habits to pivotal decisions like a career shift, relocation, or personal transformation.

The significance doesn't lie in the magnitude of events experienced but in the insights they've provided and your current feelings toward that cycle. Reflecting on the past isn't about assigning blame but understanding how you've arrived at your present state from a learning perspective.

Three Steps to Conclude a Cycle:

  1. Introspection
Begin by attentively reviewing your experiences. Take a moment to describe what transpired, revisit your agenda or journal, and recall those who were part of this phase. Identify key moments. Visualize this information as puzzle pieces that help complete the picture of the cycle.

  2. Self-Evaluation
With the gathered information, proceed to analysis—not from a place of judgment but with the intent to discern:

    • Emotional Responses: What emotions surfaced? What remains stagnant, and what have you managed to release?

    • Lessons Learned: Reflect on the most valuable insights from this stage and how they've transformed you.

This process also allows you to acknowledge unresolved emotions and their potential impact on your present. Additionally, recognize what you've transformed and how that fosters a sense of security and centeredness today.

Remember, each experience can be viewed from two angles: drama or learning and transformation. Consciously choose your perspective.

  3. Gratitude
This is the most empowering closure. After observing and evaluating your experiences, gratitude shifts your outlook. It's not about complacency but genuinely acknowledging the lessons and experiences that have brought you to this point. Even challenging moments offer teachings.

The Purpose of This Process

Engaging in this exercise helps chart the path to the next phase. Without understanding where we've come from, it's challenging to define where we want to go. Reflecting on our learnings and recognizing our current capabilities enables us to set realistic and attainable goals while still dreaming big.

Each cycle—be it a year, a relationship, or a personal transformation—offers an opportunity for growth. This self-reflection process shouldn't be reserved solely for year-end but applied at the conclusion of any significant stage, such as the end of a relationship, a job change, or the onset of motherhood.

Embrace each closure as a chance to deepen self-understanding, release what's no longer needed, and move forward with greater clarity into the future.
